Bitsys is a busy and welcoming café focused on serving freshly prepared comfort food and incredible baked goods in a clean and friendly environment. We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to support both back-of-house operations and general café upkeep.

Position Summary:

The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for supporting food preparation, preparing grilled cheese items to our high standard, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, assisting counter staff with cleaning equipment, and helping keep the café area clean and organised. This role is essential in ensuring smooth daily operations and high hygiene standards throughout the business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare grilled cheese sandwiches and other simple menu items according to Bitsy's standards

• Assist with basic food preparation (ingredient prep, assembling)

• Operate grills and kitchen equipment safely

• Wash pots, pans, utensils, and dishes promptly and thoroughly

• Clean and sanitise kitchen surfaces, floors, and equipment

• Provide backup support to counter staff (e.g., cleaning milk jugs, equipment, and utensils)

• Clear tables and maintain cleanliness of the café seating area

• Dispose of waste and maintain organised storage areas

• Restock kitchen and cleaning supplies as needed

• Follow all food safety, hygiene, and health regulations

• Support the team during busy service periods

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Previous kitchen or food preparation experience preferred (not essential)

• Understanding of basic food hygiene practices

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

• Strong work ethic and attention to cleanliness

• Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods

• Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented

• Flexible availability, including weekends if required
