We're looking for an experienced, reliable and enthusiastic Lead Café Assistant to join our small independent café team.

​

This is a hands-on role for someone who knows their way around a busy café and is confident taking the lead when needed. You'll be making coffee, serving customers, preparing our grilled cheese menu, keeping the café running smoothly and supporting the rest of the team throughout the day.

 

We're a small team, so we're looking for someone who is happy to get stuck in wherever they're needed rather than being tied to one particular job.

The Role:

•  Taking the lead during shifts and helping make sure everything runs smoothly.

•  Making great coffee and preparing drinks to a consistently high standard.

•  Providing friendly, welcoming and efficient customer service.

•  Preparing and serving our grilled cheese menu and other café food.

•  Moving between front of house and the kitchen as needed, particularly during busy periods.

•  Supporting and guiding other team members during shifts.

•  Opening and closing the café when required.

•  Helping with stock checks, deliveries and ordering.

•  Operating the till and handling cash responsibly.

•  Keeping the café clean, organised and ready for customers.

•  Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, food safety and cleanliness.

•  Dealing confidently with day-to-day problems and making sensible decisions when the manager isn't immediately available.

•  Helping create the kind of friendly, relaxed atmosphere that makes people want to come back.

We're looking for someone who:

•  Has previous experience working in a busy café or similar environment.

• Is confident making coffee and working with customers.

•  Is comfortable preparing simple café food and working in a kitchen environment.

• Can confidently switch between the coffee machine, counter and kitchen throughout a shift.

•  Is comfortable taking responsibility and making decisions when needed.

•  Leads by example rather than simply telling other people what to do.

•  Is organised, proactive and able to stay calm when things get busy.

•  Is friendly, approachable and good at working as part of a small team.

•  Is reliable and takes pride in doing things properly.

•  Has a genuine interest in good coffee, food and customer service.

•  Holds, or is willing to obtain, a Food Hygiene Certificate.
